Japanese Haniwa - 'Circle of Clay'
Hollowed terracotta clay figures and shapes of different significances were made as funerary objects during the Kofun period and beyond, either for ritual/ceremonial use or to be buried with the dead to protect them in the afterlife and for marking burial site boundary markings. They are still used in burials or left at gravesides for protection. Horses were used in ceremonies and arranged neatly in lines, signifying a 'send-off' for the deceased.
Approximate measurements: 5.5cm Height x 2.5cm Width x 5cm Length
Each Haniwa is different as they are all handmade and the price is for one figurine. P&P is included.
